Therapy approaches
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioral therapy is a therapy practice that focuses on the relationship between our thoughts - behaviors - emotions. We call this the “CBT triangle”. These three components interact together to help us understand who we are and why we do some of the things we do. CBT is an evidence-based, first line treatment for many disorders.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a “trendy” new term that gets thrown around a lot. However, it does carry a lot of weight in helping us cope with big emotions and situations. Mindfulness is a way to help us feel like we have more control over what can feel like uncontrollable feelings.
Polyvagal Theory
Polyvagal theory is an emerging approach to treating and processing trauma. Polyvagal theory merges the science of safety, trust, self-regulation, and attachment. Often these components are impacted by trauma, this approach helps address these core concerns.
